Angela Maria D'Onofrio

January 15, 1913 - September 8, 2017

D’Onofrio. Angela Maria (DeMilia) D’Onofrio, of Wethersfield for more than 56 years, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2017 at the age of 104 years and 8 months. Angela was born January 15, 1913, in Calitri, Provincia Di Avellino, Italy, to the late Michele Arcangelo DeMilia, and Maria Antonia (Capossela) DeMilia, the eldest of nine children. She arrived at Ellis Island New York via the Duca di Genoda, on November 2, 1915. The family took residence in Hartford, CT, where Angela attended Hartford Public Schools, receiving a certificate in Pattern and Art Design. Angela was the beloved wife of the late John L. D’Onofrio, whom she was wedded to on February 27, 1933. At the time of his death, they were married over forty-eight years. Angela worked in numerous capacities at a local garment industry, Malley Manufacturing, for more than nine years. Angela left Malley Manufacturing to begin raising her family in 1937. In 1942, shortly after the birth of her second child, Angela was employed by Zelinger Clothiers of Hartford, CT, where she retired as an Alterations Specialist, assisting the owners in all capacities, after thirty-six years of service. Angela was a communicant of the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield, CT, as well as a member of its Women’s Club. Throughout her life, Angela had a soft spot for all children, opening the door of her home for all members of her family and friends, even embracing those in need at her workplace. Angela was known for walking everyone who visited her to the door and providing them with a big hug to go home with. Angela enjoyed staying in touch with family and friends by sending greeting cards. She would write a personal message in each card that was specifically geared toward the recipient. Angela also stayed in touch with telephone calls, each call filled with joy and happy words for those on the receiving end. As she was a person of great faith and strong conviction, the family would like to thank the tremendous spiritual assistance provided by her church, and the caring medical professionals she crossed paths with throughout her fruitful and rewarding journey through life. Angela felt blessed to have so many caring people looking out for her through her many years. Angela will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Angela is survived by her devoted daughter, Annette M. D’Onofrio; three loving grandsons, Leonard J. D’Onofrio, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, Steven M. D’Onofrio, Michael J. D’Onofrio and his wife Tamara; and a cherished great-grandson John L. D’Onofrio. Angela leaves her brother, Vincent DeMilia; brothers-in-law Max Kalman and Andrew Kovtun; sisters-in-law Lorraine DeMilia and Carol DeMilia; and numerous nieces and nephews of multiple generations. She was predeceased by her son Leonard J. D’Onofrio, Sr. and his wife Bernadette, three sisters; Maria Zepka, Rose Kalman and Jeannette Kovtun, and four brothers; Rocco C. and Rocco A. DeMilia, Joseph DeMilia and Michael DeMilia. I love you all! It was Angela’s wish for her remains to be cremated. There will be a calling hour at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT from 11:00 AM–12:00PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017, followed by a memorial service at Noon. A Christian burial at the family plot will immediately follow. Keeping in tune with Angela’s love for children, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Angela’s memory to: Boys Town; 200 Flanagan Blvd., PO Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010-9988 [boystown.org]. You see the good in everyone…it must be because there is so much good in you!
