Bernard J. McQueeney
May 24, 1929 - August 1, 2021
Bernard J. McQueeney, age 92, of Wethersfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021. Born in Hartford on May 24,1929, he was a son of the late John T. and Grace McQueeney. Bernie grew up in Newington, played some minor league baseball, and served in the Army National Guard. He raised his children in Windsor Locks and Glastonbury where he was very active in town sports including coaching little league. He worked at The Hartford for more than 40 years as an Assistant Director in IT and then at the CT State Grange FCU before fully retiring. He will be remembered for his gentle nature and the unending love that he had for his family. He was a true gentleman except for those instances where the Yankees left men on base in scoring position! During his very active retirement, he spent time perfecting his already perfect yard, coaching youth baseball, watching UCONN basketball and driving Miss Daisy to and from. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Raymond “Buddy” and John “Jack” McQueeney, sister Geraldine Beale, and daughter Paula Sokolowicz. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Dora, daughters Karen Fisher, Kathy DeLos and husband Michael, Lisa Sanchez and Eileen McGee, and Brian McQueeney, and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will take place at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
