Ellen Foley Weaver

June 3, 1947 - July 19, 2017

Tom’s loving wife, Ellen Foley Weaver, passed away peacefully July 19, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Born on June 3, 1947 in Geer Hospital in Canaan, CT, she was one of four children of the late John Edward and Caroline Gunn Foley. Ellen is survived by her husband Thomas Weaver, two sisters, Kathleen Foley Wilcox and Caroline Foley Carlson, and a sister-in-law Carol-Ann Weaver. In addition, Ellen leaves her nephews JD Wilcox, Steven Wilcox, and nieces Thea Wilcox Ciciotte, and Kristen Carlson Rubin, who brought her great pleasure. She was predeceased by her brother John Foley. Ellen graduated from Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, MA with an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1967. She was employed by the State of CT, Dept. of Income Maintenance as an Associate Accounts Examiner for 36 years working with local banks administering the USDA Food Stamp Program. Ellen loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved history and traveled to Colonial Williamsburg, VA 19 times. Ellen loved sports and was a NY Yankee fan since age four when her grandfather taught her how to calculate batting averages. Ellen also loved UCONN Women’s College Basketball and golf. She was a member at the Country Club of North Carolina, a former member of the Country Club of Farmington, and world famous Pinehurst Resort where she made 38 trips to the Sand Hills of NC. She also enjoyed spending time in Kennebunk, ME during the summer. Ellen was a very religious person and attended weekly mass until her declining health prevented her from doing so. Ellen was Tom’s best friend and partner in life. She never was unreasonable and always told the truth. They made a very good team and had a lot of fun. Ellen was a saint. Many thanks to her team of physician’s, especially Patrick McDermott, Colin Swales, Paul Dekker, in addition to the nurses and staff who provided excellent care and comfort during her final weeks. We love her and will miss her greatly. Calling hours will be Monday, July 24, from 6-8pm at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St, Rocky Hill, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10am at St. James Church, 767 Elm St.,Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Please meet directly at the church on Tuesday.
