Elsie Brighenti Grant, 93 of Middletown, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Pilgrim Manor in Cromwell. She was the daughter of Frank and Clara Brighenti. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Alexander Grant, Jr. She is survived by her son Wayne F. Grant (Dorothylee Grant) of East Hartford, her daughter Pamela E. Grant (Thomas Christensen) of Middletown and by her sisters Louise Quinn of Southwick, MA and Dorothy Spencer of Coventry. She was predeceased by her brother Francis Brighenti. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Elyse (Justin) Mathews, Christopher Infante, Darrell (Jerinne) Grant, Deandra (Sebastian) Papotto and great-grandchildren Gianna and Brielle Mathews and Daisy and Alexander Grant. She also leaves her devoted grand-dogs Dylan and Petie. Auntie Elsie was a second mother to and is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her daughter-in-law, Doris Grant, and so many more loving relatives and friends. Elsie was born in Stafford Springs, CT on March 25, 1926. Elsie attended Hartford schools and graduated from Bulkeley High School with the class of 1944. Elsie worked as a bookkeeper following graduation eventually working at Hartford National Bank where she met her husband Alex. She retired from the West Hartford Board of Education where she served as bookkeeper for the Cafeteria system. Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, and auntie, family was everything to her. She loved her dogs. She was devoted to her children and actively participated in PTA and served as room mother numerous times at Batchelder School in Hartford, she was a troop leader for Cub Scouts. She volunteered at the West Hartford Senior Center and the UConn Health Center. She was a past president of a WH chapter for CT American Legion Auxiliary. She travelled around the world with Al. She was beautiful and talented, enjoyed reading mysteries, knitting, sewing and baking, she made memorable birthday cakes. She knitted neonatal afghans for charity, while at Pilgrim Manor she knitted booties and sweaters for her favorite nurses and aides. Family and friends may visit for calling hours from 4-7 pm on Tuesday December 17, 2019 at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street Rocky Hill CT, 06067. Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Rose Hill Funeral Home. The family would like to thank her wonderful caretakers and friends at Pilgrim Manor of Cromwell, CT, notably Stephanie, Hillary, Concetta, Madeleine and Cheryl. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor at the American Diabetes Association or the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
