Emerson C. Stuart "Stu" Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Emerson C. Stuart “Stu” was taken peacefully home into the arms of his Lord on a beautiful spring afternoon, Tuesday, May 24th at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family. Born in Lubec, Maine, to Elizabeth (Kelley) and Emery Stuart, Stu lived a happy, nature-filled life on the coastal waters. He often regaled us with stories of his first job working in a sardine factory and the fun of living a simple, joy-filled life. It is no surprise that the sun first rises in Lubec, the most Eastern point in the United States, as Stu lit up everyone’s lives with his love. Stu and his family moved to Connecticut where he met and married his wife, Cathleen (Wickstrom). They resided in Plainville, Connecticut, living a blessed and loving marriage of forty-eight years, enjoying their annual trips to Florida. He worked at United Technologies as a security guard for thirty-eight years before retiring. Stu lost Cathleen in 2005, and as God was always looking out for him, brought him a wonderful friend and companion, Jackie Lemelin. He and Jackie enjoyed many trips and many laughs together with a shared appreciation and devotion to their faith. Stu served as a United States Marine and always conducted himself in a manner that would make all marines proud (those spit-shined shoes of yours, Dad. Hoorah!). He spent the last month of his life at his daughter’s home with his family and friends. These days were filled with all of the things Stu loved – George Jones, Elvis, Johnny Cash, lots of jokes and laughter, sweet treats, and his “all day” coffees – because that was just Stu’s way. He lived his life as an exemplary steward of Christ’s teachings, treating others with grace and compassion. He woke up everyday with a smile on his face and God in his heart. Stu is survived by his daughter, Cyndi; his two cherished granddaughters, Karen and Sarah; his brother, Ivan; his companion, Jackie and his kitty cat, Princess. He is predeceased by his wife of forty-eight years, Cathleen; his two brothers, Clayton and Charles “Bev” and a sister, Patricia. Dad/Papa, you were our first and best spiritual teacher who set us on our course in this life, and we know with all of our hearts and souls you will always be with us in your lightness of spirit and guiding us ever so gently from your new home in heaven, just as you did here on Earth. The family thanks Hartford Healthcare Hospice and the staff at Village Green of Bristol for taking tremendous and loving care of Stu. A private burial service with military honors will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill, CT at the convenience of the family.
