July 25, 1941 - June 20, 2017
Gerald J. Nash, Sr., 75 of Rocky Hill, CT passed to the next phase of his life on June 20, 2017, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Surry, BC Canada, “Big Jer” was predeceased by his parents, James and Dorothy. He worked for 30 + years for Hunter Equipment and provided for his family a complete and wonderful life. He loved golf, watching any sporting event (Go Whale!) and telling officials and athletes how to improve their game – often during said game. He was a member of Warren Lodge #51 for over 45 years and Past Master twice. “Biggie” lived life to the fullest and spread his love, goodwill and compassion to all that he came in contact with, and through the ripple effect, many he never met. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Mary Jane (Zabiski) Nash and their children: Julie Hughes and her husband Jerry, Jennifer Barrett and her husband Kevin, and Jerry Jr. and his wife Jennifer. Jerry also leaves behind his first son, Scott Nash and his wife, Betty. He was a doting grandfather to Connor, Luke, Rachel, Trevor, Madison, Erin, Amelia and Gerald III (Trey). From babysitting, to swimming, to teaching their numbers and colors, he was larger than life and filled his grandchildren’s lives with love and happiness. He also leaves many siblings scattered through the United States and Canada, a special sister, Janette and her daughter Grace in CA, his loving brother, Larry Nash in Mexico, a very dedicated and special best friend, Dave Pierson of Cromwell and many nieces and nephews. Although he will be missed dearly, we are all happy he is free from the body and mind that has failed him from doing the things he loved and being the man he was. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at 11am at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours will be Monday, 5-7pm at the funeral home. If Big Jer touched your life and made it better…please pay it forward with an act of kindness, an encouraging word, or a loving gesture. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Masonicare Charity Foundation, 22 Masonic Ave, Wallingford, CT 06492. These last few months have been difficult, but more bearable, not only for Biggie but for his family and friends by these wonderful people.
