December 4, 1922 - July 2, 2017
Marguerite Nelson, 94 (and a half), of Manchester, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 2nd. She was born on December 4th, 1922 in Bath, Maine, the daughter of the late William and Helen Hoyt. Marguerite married her Air Force pen pal, Leo, on September 29th, 1945 at the Memorial Baptist Church in Hartford. Marguerite and Leo were true soulmates and their loving marriage lasted for 67 years until Leo's death on January 14th, 2013. She was a 1940 graduate of Bulkeley High School and worked many years for The Hartford Times. The beautiful rock garden that adorned her backyard was a testament to her love of flowers. Marguerite also had a unique love for all animals - and named every one of God's creatures that wandered into her yard. She was an avid sports fan, especially for her beloved UConn Lady Huskies. Her smile and her fun-loving giggle will be remembered by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her devoted son, David, and his wife Judy, of Hartford, CT. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joyce Fritz of Philadelphia, PA, her sister-in-law Pearl Nelson of Houston, TX, her brother-in-law, Rev. Donald Nelson of Reading, PA, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marguerite is predeceased by her brothers, William Hoyt of St. Louis, MO, George Hoyt of Rockport, MA, Norman (Bud) Hoyt of Hartford, CT and by her sister, Helen Hoyt of Montgomery, AL. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care of Miss Rose Williams, her live-in caregiver for the past 3+ years, and for the compassion of her visiting hospice nurses. Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 7th at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. John F. Endler of Central Baptist Church in Hartford will take place in Rose Hill Memorial Park at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 8th. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her name to the ASPCA PO Box 96929 Washington, DC 20090-6929. For online condolences, please visit www.rosehillfuneralhomes.com.
