Mrs Maria Jose Vieira

August 5, 1933 - August 26, 2015

Maria Jose (Milhomens) Vieira, 82, of Newington, loving wife of 45 years of the late Joao Vieira, peacefully journeyed Home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family. Maria was born in San Miguel, Acores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Oliveira) Milhomens and was the youngest of seven children. She came to the United States with her husband and children in 1969. Prior to her retirement she was employed for many years by the former Hi-G Company, South Windsor. A devout Catholic, Maria was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford who prayed the rosary and watched the televised Mass daily. She was a humble, compassionate women filled with kindness. Never asking for anything, she was the first to give to others. Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. Maria loved to cook Sunday meals for her family, and also enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. Maria is survived by her two loving children, Francisco Vieira and his wife Doris Maritza, and Filomena Reis and her husband, Agostinho, all of Rocky Hill; two grandchildren, Steven and David Reis; her brother Mariano Pereira from Canada along with many dear family members. She was predeceased by one sister and four brothers. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mapleview Manor of Rocky Hill for the wonderful care given to Maria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 31, at 9:30 AM. In St. James Roman Catholic Church, 767 Elm St, Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband. Calling hours are Sunday, August 30, from 2-4 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill.
