September 30, 1926 - December 7, 2021
Robert Joseph Lizotte, Robert, Bob, Bob Sr., or “Uncle Bob” as many knew him, of Manchester was born Sept 30, 1926, died Dec 7, 2021, aged 95. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean (Roehm) Lizotte in 2013, his parents, and his brother George. He was born to George Lizotte and Marie-Anne (Saint Pierre) Lizotte in Fall River, Mass. and moved to Hartford CT at an early age. He joined the Army on 20 Dec 1944 and served in the Pacific Theater in WW II in the U.S. Army and Army Air Force until his discharge. While serving, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal for service during the war in Northern Japan immediately after the war. After the war, he began a career driving in the freight hauling industry as an owner-operator with Middle Atlantic trucking in New Britain, CT. After marrying Norma, he worked for trucking companies until he and Norma became owners of Hamilton Express and Refrigerated Truck Leasing, both based first in East Hartford then in South Windsor until the early 1960’s. Later, he worked in the meat hauling and freight industry at Union Meat Co. and Nelson Freightways. He retired from driving while working for First Hartford Realty Co. He had a passionate love of animals which he developed at an early age while spending summers on his Aunt’s Dairy Farm in RI. He is survived by his children William (Tammy) of Dunnellon Florida, Dr. Pauline Lizotte, with whom he made his home, Adrienne (Mike) Gagnon of Ellington, Robert (Tracy) of Killingworth, and Renee S. (Greg Crooks) Lizotte of Tucson, AZ. Bob was a great man, always willing to help others, happy to feed large gatherings (no one ever left hungry) and joking with everyone. We will miss his big smile. Bob was always fond of animals, especially dogs, and recently lost his pure-bred German Shepard “Cullen”, who he rescued in Florida and will be with him forever. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday (December 11, 2021) from 10 to 11 AM at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the parlor. Burial with military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. In Lieu of flowers, we request that memorial contributions be made to the CT Humane Society or other dog rescue groups.
