Robert (Bob) Edgar Sirrine, age 90, of Simsbury and West Hartford, CT, passed peacefully on October 7, 2020. Bob was devoted to his loving wife, Barbara Jean (Harlow), of 64 years. He was born in Hartford, CT, on June 13, 1930, son of the late Edgar Ealof and Margaret Ellen (Carroll) Sirrine, and predeceased by his sister, Margaret "Ellen" (Coughlin) and her husband, Thomas. In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bob leaves behind a daughter, Norma Jean (Sirrine) Ignatowicz and her husband Michael of Canton, CT, son Michael Robert Sirrine and his wife Jeanette (Sanzo), formerly of South Windsor, CT, four grandchildren Brian Ignatowicz, Justin Michael Sirrine, Alexandra Lauren Sirrine and Elizabeth Rose Sirrine, two great-grandchildren Asher and Emerson Rose Ignatowicz, and several nephews. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to everyone. Bob loved the outdoors, including gardening, camping, boating, photography and birding. He enjoyed all things nautical - camping by the ocean, lighthouse hopping, fishing and consuming copious amounts of lobster. Bob instilled the love of camping and the outdoors in his wife and children. Michael and Norma have been life-long campers and have shared that love with their own families and friends. Bob served as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, Company D, Second Medical Battalion, Second Marine Division, FMF, assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC, on the USS Sarasota from 1948 to 1951 and subsequently assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1952, also at Camp Lejeune. Upon his completion of service, he began working at the Viking Baking Company in Elmwood, CT. His friendly, outgoing demeanor served him well while delivering bread and tasty Swedish baked goods to customers in the area for nearly a decade. Bob’s favorite pastry was Viking’s braided cardamom ring – frequently eating an entire ring himself. Bob always enjoyed working with his hands. Later, Bob was employed as a pressman by several printing companies in the Hartford, CT, area, for over three decades. He enjoyed creating specialty printed materials for customers by typesetting and working a Heidelberg press, among other printing machinery. Bob retired from Finlay Printing of Bloomfield, CT, in 1997. With all his newfound time, Bob enjoyed gardening, making bird houses and tending to his yard. He enjoyed talking with neighbors and walking his dog, Angie, around the block. Bob and Barbara loved sharing their decades-long enthusiasm for UConn’s women basketball team, ice cream sundaes, and long drives. Bob was always ready with a joke or a quick-witted comment to attract a few laughs. His health issues of later years were a burden to him but his optimism was always evident in his smile. A graveside service will be held on Monday (October 12, 2020) at 11AM in the Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required.
