Thomas Anthony Barber of Hartford, husband of Elena (Sena) Barber, died Sunday morning on April 15th at Avon Health Center. He was born in New Haven on 12/29/21 of his mother, Mary Ferdinando Barber and his father, Thomas C. Barber. He was a member of the Hartford Police Department since 7/8/46 and retired in 1976 as a Detective Lieutenant. He then became associated with Connecticut Bank and Trust and managed their Safe Deposit Department at the Main Office until he retired in 1986.Mr. Barber graduated from the F.B.I. Police Academy in 1962 and from that date until his retirement headed the Hartford Police Burglary Squad. He was an active member of the Hartford Police Veteran’s Association, a life member of the Patrolmen and Firemen Association of Hartford, a member of the Hartford Police Patrolmen’s Association, the Police Association of Connecticut, and the F.B.I National Academy of Associates. Mr. Barber graduated from Weaver High School, class of 1940. He served in the South Pacific during WWII as a platoon Sergeant with the 43rd Infantry Division. He was a member of Hartford Police VFW Post #2849 and a member of the 43rd Infantry Division Veterans Association. He was a life member of BPOE Lodge #17, Hartford, and an active life member of the YMCA for 52 years. His last years he resided happily at River Ridge in Avon under the loving care of his daughter, Janet Freidenberg and his son-in-law, Kenneth Freidenberg of Canton. He is also survived by his daughter, Joyce Teed and his son-in-law, George Teed of Lebanon; his grandson, Jacob Freidenberg and Oriana and his great grandsons, Zachary and Zander of Burlington; his granddaughter, Hannah Ardenski and her husband Andy Ardenski; his grandson Samuel Teed and his wife Sandy; and his granddaughter, Emma Teed, all of Lebanon, CT. Thomas is buried at Rose Hill cemetery Row 11 on the Veterans Pathway of Heroes. The family is grateful to all those health service workers who gave him such loving care in his final years.
